French Open: Novak Djokovic Beats Alexander Zverev To Book Spot Against Dominic Thiem In Semi-final
Novak Djokovic gears up for a semi-final match with Austrian veteran Thiem Dominic after he had eliminated Alexander Zverev in the quarter-final on their eighth ATP Fedex meetings.
It took the world no. 1 two hours to rout the German in three sets but had survived a scare in the opening set before cruising through to beat the fifth seed by 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
Entering into the semi-final brings the top seed closer to making history as the first player ever to claim all four Gram Slam championship title. Currently, he is the only player to have won all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles which made him first ever to have clinched a Golden Masters status.
Speaking about his next match, Djokovic admitted to Dominic capability to oust any top players on a clay-court and acknowledged his strength with the use of his forehand.
"That's where he's playing his best tennis," Djokovic said about the Austrian "He's got that tremendous power in his game especially with [his] forehand and serve. I think his backhand has also improved a lot in the past couple of years."
In their last meeting in Roland Garros in 2017, Dominic outclassed Djokovic in the quarter-final by 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-0 but he trailed by 2-6 in ATP FedEx head-to-head.
