French Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Wins As Mercedes Take Sixth One-Two Finish Of The Season
Lewis Hamilton got off to a start from pole position and finished masterly to claim his sixth race victory of the season whilst Valtteri Bottas followed in second place for Mercedes sixth one-two finish of the season.
Whilst Hamilton stayed up in the lead through to the finish line, Bottas was faced with a late onslaught from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in a contest for the second place, however, the Monegasque finished in third place for his second podium position of the season.
With eight race already gone and Hamilton leading his closest rival in driver's standing by 36 pints, the Briton seemed set for his sixth championship title - he doesn't seem likely to face that much challenges from Bottas and Sebastian Vettel will have a lot of work to do to catch up with him.
"It has been a really good weekend. I have been racing a long time and it never gets old," Hamilton said.
"It is such a challenge out there, finding the edge and building the gap...It wasn't easy at all and everything is on the edge. I had quite a big blisters on the front two tyres but this has been the best start of the year."
In the other hand, Renault driver Daniel Riccardo bagged double penalty for running wide and off the track in an attempt to overtake McLaren driver Lando Norris. He could have finished in seventh place but for the penalty he already has, he was dropped to eleventh.
