French GP Qualifying Session: Lewis Hamilton Takes Pole Position For Career 60th With Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton extended his pole position in Formula One to an all-time highest of 86th at the final qualifying session of the French Open on Saturday.
Last week at the Canadian Prix, Hamilton claimed a controversial victory over his arch-rival Sebastian Vettel following a penalty the German was served for collision with the Mercedes driver. It was different at Paul Ricard circuit as the defending champion clinched his 60th pole for Mercedes.
Whilst Ferrari had a tough weekend, the Mercedes duo controlled the final session through with for a one-two win with Hamilton pacing ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas to finish quickest in 1:28.319 seconds.
"I definitely do feel strong but each weekend I come in and feel that I'm starting on the right foot," said Hamilton afterwards "Valtteri goes and put in bloody good laps every time. I'm constantly being pushed by Valtteri."
The Finn finished in second place behind Hamilton by 0.286 seconds and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc came third ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen - meanwhile, Sabastian finished in the seventh position.
