Fernando Torres Retires From Professional Football

Fernando Torres has come to the end of his career following an announcement that he will be retiring from professional football this weekend.

The 2008 World Cup winning forward who joined the Japanese side Sagan Tosu from Atletico Madrid last year, announced this on Thursday via a tweeted message accompanied with a clip that showed a quick rundown of his 18-year career.

"I have something very important to announced. After 18 exciting years, the time has come to put an end to my football career," the 35-year-old captioned the clip.

"Next Sunday, the 23rd at 10:00AM, local time in Japan, I will have a press conference in Tokyo to explain all the details. See you there."

Torres started his career at Atletico Madrid in 2001 where he scored 82 goals in 214 appearances that ran through six seasons. He left Atletico to join Liverpool in 2007 and after spending four seasons at Anfield, he moved to Chelsea where he won the Champions League (2011/12), UEFA Europa League (2012-13) and the FA Cup (2012-13).
