Eddie Hearn Announces Venue, Date For Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr. Rematch

Anthony Joshua might be heading back to Madison Square Garden for his rematch with newly crowned heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. according to his promoter Eddie Hearn.

A rematch clause was triggered immediately after Joshua was defeated by the unfancied Mexican boxer. Ruiz floored the former heavyweight champion twice in round three and was announced as the winner by the referee for knocking Joshua down twice again in round seven.

For Ruiz, his native country will be his choice location for the rematch given that he is the first boxing heavyweight champion from the country. That opinion may not stand given that Joshua and his team are suggesting that the fight be taken back to New York if not London where they have three locations to choose from.

"I can't tell you too much, just because I don't know other than, between November 16 and December 14 will be the date of the fight," Eddie told Sky Sports "We've had offers from five different countries to stage the fight. For me, it's a straight decision between the UK or America."

Anthony Joshua knocked Andy Ruiz down in round three before he lost balance after the Mexican knocked him down twice in the same round
"In the UK, we're talking to Cardiff, to Wembley, to Tottenham and in America, we've had a couple of approaches, but our preference is Madison Square Garden. A sensible man would say 'Do it in the UK'"
Eddie also pointed out that the fight is important to Joshua who wants to rewrite history after a humiliating defeat to Ruiz at Madison Square on June 1.

"But like I said, he [Joshua] will be the one who calls the final shots...Right now, I couldn't tell you what will be, but I would definitely say it will be between the UK and America."
