Eastbourne International: Women's Tennis World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty Withdraws With Arm Injury

Women's tennis top ranking player Ashleigh Barty has pulled out of the Nature Valey international in Eastbourne for a right arm injury.

The 2019 French Open champion, 23, emerged as the winner of Birmingham Classic after routing Julia Gorges in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday and earned the top spot in women's tennis rankings as a result.

Barty revealed in her statement that she has been managing with the injury since she was 16-year-old and it has to do with bone related issues.

"When I have a spike in load it comes up - it's a bone stress injury and I need to look after it, particularly in these first few days...It's important to get on top of it straight away," she said.

The Australian won her first Grand Slam title at the French Open early in June and weeks later claimed her second title at Birmingham.
