Chelsea: Maurizio Sarri Joins Juventus As Club's New Manager On Three-Year Contract
Maurizio Sarri's stint at Chelsea has finally ended and finally return to Serie A to become Juventus new manager after both clubs agreed to a deal in the excess of £5 million.
The Italian, 60, led the Premier League side to win their second Uefa Europa League title by a 4-1 final match win over Arsenal on 29 May. Since then, he has made it clear to Blues that he wanted out to return to Italy for reasons that are "significant" to him.
"In talks [that] we had following the Europa League final, Maurizio made it clear how strongly he desired to return to his native country," Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has earlier confirmed Sarri's exit in a statement on the club's website "Explaining that his reasons for wanting to return to work in Italy were significant."
Chelsea signed Sarri to a three-year contract from Napoli last year as a replacement for Antonio Conte who is now Inter Milan new manager.
"He also believed it important to be nearer his family, and for the well-being of his elderly parents, he felt the need to live closer to them at this point...We would also like t to congratulate him on securing the role as a big as any in Serie A and wish him the best of luck for the future."
Maurizio Sarri troubles and opportunities
On his debut and only season in Premier League, Sarri led Chelsea to return to the Champions League having finished third in the Premier League. More so, as the Europa League defending champions, that guaranteed he left the club on a good note.
However, he had some troubles with the club fans who criticized him for his so-called 'Sarri-ball' style of play and that was heightened when they ranted "you are going to be sack in the morning" after losing 2-0 to Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
In the Carabao Cup final, Sarri missed lifting his first trophy to Manchester City in a penalty shootout after a goalless match (0-0; 3-4) and Pep Guardiola's side were crowned winners. Man. City proceeded to win a domestic treble - Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Carabao Cup.
In the face of the mixed- feelings, Massimiliano Allegri stepped down as Juve manager after winning five consecutive Serie A title and wanted to rest from the sport for a year. That signalled a potential return to Italy for Sarri and the club wasted no time to land him the job as a suitable replacement for the exited manager.
