Andy Ruiz Jr. Demands Rematch With Anthony Joshua To Be In Mexico
Andy Ruiz Jr. is definitely living his dream after he stunningly defeated Anthony Joshua to be Mexico's first boxing heavyweight champion. Since he is the new champion, he wants to determine where the rematch should be held.
Joshua was outshone by the 29-year-old who floored him four times to win the match with a knockout in seventh-round and became the new WBA, WBO, IBF belt holder.
Ruiz accepted the request for a rematch from Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn who demanded it after the match. He said when approached "I'd love to do the rematch but first I've got to talk to my team, we'll go from there and figure things out."
Given his choice of location for the rematch, the American-Mexican wanted that to be held in his native country, Mexico since he is the country's first ever heavyweight champion.
"I'd love to be in Mexico, there's never been a heavyweight champion in Mexico so I'd love to have a rematch there. I'm still pinching myself that this true, all that hard work and dedication, I've made my dream come true."
However, Ruiz choice of location contradicts Joshua and Eddie's who wanted it to be in the United Kingdom later in the year.
Ruiz went to reveal that Joshua's body language had indicated to him that he would not stay long after he knocked him down twice in the third round because his body was shaky thereafter.
"Even if the referee didn't stop it, I saw his legs, his body was tired and shaking, I think I would've ended it in a dramatic way."
