AC Milan Get A Season Ban In Europa League For Breaching Financial Fair Play Rules
AC Milan will miss the Europa League next season after UEFA's Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found it guilty of breaching the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
CAS announced the exclusion of Milan in the competition for a season on Friday and stated that its ruling against the club was based on overspending.
In a statement issued by the club after CAS, the Italian club promised to comply with the FFP in its spending in the future and avoid accumulating losses which would culminate in breaching the rules.
"Whilst saddened by the fact that our fans will not be able to see their team complete in European competition next season, the club recognises and respect FFP," the statement reads.
The case is dated between 2015 and 2017 and Milan should have been served two-year ban but that was later reduced to a season following an appeal by the club.
As a consequence of the ban handed down by CAS, AS Roma have now moved a place up to fifth position and Milan lose its slot for Europa to Torino who finished the season in seven-place.
Milan, in the statement, promised to return to the competition next season and take the club back up to the "rightful place" it belongs in European football.
Milan secured a spot in the continental game for finishing fifth in the Serie A in season 2018/19 and trailed Inter Milan by just a point.
