Premier League: Chelsea Defeat Warford 3-0 To Boost Top Four Hope
Chelsea are back in the top four of the Premier League table having defeated Watford 3-0 at Stanford Stadium to move up to third place whilst Tottenham dropped to fourth.
Watford showed some resilience in the first half and even come very close to nailing an opening from Troy Deeney's powerful header but Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga dived to push it to safety.
After the break, Hornets' defense came crumbling down as Chelsea hit in two goals with a header from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and David Luiz just before an hour of play.
Gonzalo Higuain completed the scoring with the third and his fifth goal for Chelsea, with a through pass from Pedro the Italian beat onrushing Watford's goalkeeper Ben Foster with a right-footed shot from inside the area.
"At the beginning, we were tired physically and mentally," said Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri admitting to Watford's resilience "Then, in the second half, they lowered the intensity and we got in control of the match. It was very difficult in the first half and we were lucky because we scored two goals in three minutes and then after the second goal we were able to play good football."
As title bid get tougher between Liverpool and Manchester City, Chelsea enhanced their top four hope with 71 points over Tottenham and Arsenal which trail in fourth and fifth position respectively.
