Maria Sharapova Withdraws From French Open

Maria Sharapova has announced her withdrawal from the French Open to allow her to recover from a shoulder injury.
The two-time champion is understood to have undergone minor procedure on her shoulder in February but has since been unable to make a comeback and leading to her pulling out from Italian Open.
She confirmed withdrawing from the tournament in an Instragram story, stating that it would be better for her to regain her strength in her shoulder than risk appearing.
"WIthdrawing from the French Open today. Sometimes the right decisions aren't always the easy ones," Sharapova says in the story.
"In better news, I have returned to the practice court, and slowly building the strength back in my shoulder. I'll really miss you, Paris, until next year."
The five-time Grand Slam winner last appeared in St. Petersburg in January where she was defeated in straight sets 6-0 6-4 by Daria Gavrilova in R32.
