Madrid Open: Novak Djokovic Eases Through Against Taylor Fritz To Reach R16
Novak Djokovic launched his third title bid in Madrid with an opening match win over Taylor Fritz on their second ATP FedEx career series.
The American showed some resilience at the start of with Djokovic but that would last longer as the two-time titlist won a break point to win the opener and proceeded to eased through the second set for straight sets win, 6-4 6-2 that lasted for 65 minutes.
In Apri, Fritz met the world no. 1 for the first time in his career at Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters and was beaten in straight sets by 6-3, 6-0 in R32.
"The beginning of the match was kind of close and then I think 3-all," Djokovic recalled the opening set, "I thought that was the turnaround, the turning point in the match."
The Serb will face in the third round either Argentine veteran Diego Schwartzman or Jeremy Chardy both who are scheduled to meet tomorrow.
