German Bundesliga: Bayern Munich Crowned Champions For Seventh Consecutive Time, Rout Eintracht 5-1 In Final Match
Bayern Munich have emerged as the champions for the seventh consecutive time after routing Eintracht 5-1 in their final German Bundesliga match Allianz Arena Stadium.
Niko Kovac's men needed to win their 34th match was crucial to Munich in the sense that a loss to Eintracht would give the title away to Borrusia Dortmund, who defeated Monchengladbach 2-0 at home to finish the season trailing by two points behind the champions.
Munich icons Frank Ribery and Argen Robben, who have been reported to be set for retirement from professional football this summer wrapped up the scoring with the fourth and fifth goal.
However, Munich opened the scoreboard early into the match with Thomas Muller's pass connecting Kingsley Conman for a low right-footed shot under Kevin Trapp in 4th minutes.
Serge Gnarby added in the second goal from 20-yard but the VAR ruled out the strike as Lewandoski who assisted him following a fast break was caught offside.
Nonetheless, after the break, Eintracht got an equaliser from Sebastian Haller tapped in the ball from close range following a corner, but minutes later Munich responded through David Alaba who finished a rebound from Trapp's loose parry of Muller's shot from 25-yard. Renato Sanchez extended Munich's lead further curling home a right footed shot from inside the area for the third goal and Ribery sunk in the fourth with a brilliant finish amidst three defenders in the box.
With no hope of possibly making a comeback there for Eintracht, Argen Robben planted in the fifth goal after making his way through already demoralised Eintracht defence.
Having won the season, Bayern Munich would extend title dominance to a new record high of 28 titles, trailed in second place by FC Nurnberg with 9 titles and Borussia Dortmund in third with 8 titles.
