Avengers: Endgame Retains Top Spot As Pokemon: Detective Pikachu Sets Record For Video Game Adaptation Opening With $54 million
Warner Bros' Pokemon: Detective Pikachu made a record debut for a video game adaptation film but fell behind Avengers: Endgame which retained the top spot for the third weekend in a row with a domestic gross of $63 million.
Despite a huge drop of 57 percent, Avengers maintained its savage dominance with $102.3 million from the foreign market over the weekend to total at $1.765 billion internationally.
Apparently, it does not seem like the Disney film would anytime soon upset record set by Avatar for all-time biggest global gross, yet it continues to make a strong push for that as its global cume now total at $2.489 billion.
However, Avengers might be set for another challenging weekend as John Wick: Chapter 3 will be premiering on April 17 but never mind, Avengers would still keep its global position regardless anyways unless the unexpected happened.
Having said that, Talking about Pokemon, the video game adaptation fantasy film made a strong debut with $54.3 million on opening weekend, huge enough to be a record opening for a video game adaptation film.
It does not do badly in the international market either, pulling in $112.4 million from foreign markets and totalled its worldwide cume at $166.7 million.
In the foreign market, China made the largest contribution with $41 million and in Europe, the United Kingdom brought in the most at $6.6 million followed by Germany ($5.2 million).
