Premier League: Pep Guardiola Says "Title Is Still In Our Hands" As Manchester City Beat Tottenham To Regain Table Lead
Manchester City reclaimed the top spot of the Premier League after 1-0 home game win over Tottenham on Saturday and Pep Guardiola believes the title is still at their reach despite losing out in the Champions League.
City did not show any form of rustiness from their Champions League elimination by Spurs which qualified for the semi-finals on an aggregate of 4-4 with an away goal advantage on Wednesday.
Early into the match dominated by the hosts, Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal with a diving header to a cross from Sergio Aguero.
"It was a real tough game after our mental defeat on Wednesday," says Pep Guardiola "We knew we could have lost the Premier League today. As a footballer, I could not have done what my players have done today. The title is still in our hands."
Spurs responded to the lead for an equalizer but attempts from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen were brilliantly saved by City's goalkeeper Ederson as the hosts extended their home game winning streak to 25 in all competitions.
He went to say "We've been on a remarkable run, playing against an incredible team like Tottenham and fighting for the Premier league with the best Liverpool team ever...We'll fight until the end and see how far we get."
By just a point margin, City leads the Premier League table over Liverpool which trailed in second place with 85 points and Tottenham take third with 67 points.
