Peter Odemwingie Retires From Professional Football
Ex-West Brom and Stoke City player Peter Odemwingie has formally retired from football after seventeen year long active career.
The former Nigerian international, who started his career with Bendel Insurance - a Nigeria Football League side - announced his retirement on Thursday during an interview with the BBC Sport.
Speaking about memorable moments of his career, the 37-year-old recalled scoring a brace for the Super Eagles against South Africa on his debut in 2004 Nations Cup and scoring against Bosnia at Fifa 2014 World Cup as those that meant a lot to his "people back home".
"Scoring a bracr for Nigeria against South Africa at my Nations Cup debut in 2004 is unforgettable," he told the BBC Sport and added "To score for Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup against Bosnia was something special because I know what it means to my people back home."
During his six seasons spell in the Premier League (2010-16), Odemwingie who scored 36 goals in 129 appearances, also recalled winning twice the Premier League's Player of the Month Awards.
