Paul George Hits Late Game Winning Three-Point As Thunder Past Rockets, 112-111
Paul George connected a game-winning three-pointer for Oklahoma City Thunder which staged a stunning comeback to outlast Houston Rockets for a much-needed game victory by 112-111 at home on Tuesday.
The fiercely hard-fought match seemed to have turned its head in Rockets' way with 15 points lead by the third quarter, but little would be expected that Russell Westbrook alongside George would propel the side for recovery and snatch control from James Harden's side as the game became bitterly contested for by late fourth quarter.
With 20.2 seconds remaining to play, Westbrook hit a very crucial three-pointer shot and followed it with a two-point to keep Thunder close by 109-110 and committed a needless foul on Harden.
Fortunately for Thunder, Harden failed to hit a three-point shot after George had knocked down a game-winning three-point shot with 1.8 seconds remaining.
Westbrook, having recorded his third consecutive triple-double season average, finished the game leading the standouts for Thunder with 29 points, 10 assists, and 12 rebounds for his 33rd triple-double of the season and George followed with 27 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds.
Afterward, George revealed how they were able to work out a quick response to Harden missing the second free throw saying, " When [Harden] missed it, they got to do something about Russ coming downhill...I was able to free myself to the corner. Riss made the play, I had to make the shot."
Harden topped the stats with a double-double of 39 points, 3 assists, and 10 rebounds alongside Clint Capela who also racked in a double-double of 18 points, 3 assists, and 10 rebounds, Chris Paul added in 24 points, 6 assists, and 8 rebounds.
Whilst Rockets dropped to third place in the Western Conference, Thunder won four games in a row to improve to 48-33 and stand the chance to finished to the season as sixth seed from West in the playoff.
