Monte Carlos Masters 2019: Daniil Medvedev Knocks Out Novak Djokovic In Quarter-finals

Daniil Medvedev staged a surprise ousting of Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the Rolex Monte Carlos after outlasting the Serb in three sets by 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
It was a cruise through for the Russian at the decider over the two-time champion (2013, 15) capitalising on three consecutive unforced error committed by the Serb and ended the match with a backhand shot for an emphatic victory and his first match win over the world no. 1 in four ATP FedEx series.
After losing the opening set, Novak revamped his aggression and engaged his backhand shot to control the set but all that awakening was only in the second.
Afterwards, Novak praised his opponent for his brilliance and effective use of his backhand to overrun win and stated that his performance was impeded by the changing weather condition.
"He's got a very solid backhand," Djokovic said "He doesn't make many mistakes from the backhand...it's kind of tough to find the rhythm, and he doesn't give you much rhythm. He improved his movement a lot since last year. He definitely deserves to be where he is."
In the quarter-finals, Medvedev will face Serb professional Dusan Lajovic who defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
