Los Angeles Lakers: Magic Johnson Steps Down As President

Earvin "Magic" Johnson's reign as Lakers president has come to an abrupt end as he announced his resignation from the position on Tuesday night.
Lakers ended the season on a disappointing note with a 101-104 home loss to Portland Trail Blazers and will miss appearing in the playoff for six seasons in a row.
The 59-year-old held back tears when making the announcement and revealed that it was a difficult decision for him, but would rather do so for the reason of Luke Walton's future as franchise's head coach.
"It's a difficult decision, " Magic said announcing his resignation "I am about to cry now. It's hard when you love an organization the way I love this organization. It's hard when you love a person like I love Jeanie [Buss, Lakers owner, and governor]. I don't want to disappoint her."
Walton's job as head the coach is being threatened by the team's inability to make it to the playoffs for three-season under him and Magic thought it best not to inform Buss nor the general manager Rob Pelinka to avoid being talked out of his decision to leave.
"We love Luke [Walton], so I got to make a decision and that's a tough thing...It's going to be hard for her [Buss] to come and hear this right now. I get it. Because it was hard for me to go do that, to make this decision and come to this conclusion. But she's going to be fine."
Lakers finished the season in 10th position in Western Conference having improved 37-45 after their last game with Trailblazers last night.
