Ahead of Formula 1000th Grand Prix race on Sunday, Mercedes' Bottas Valtteri pipped his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to clinch the pole position at the qualifying.
The pole was the Finn's seventh of his career, outpacing Hamilton by just 0.023 sec to finish atop with a 1:31.547 sec time lead.
Mercedes shoved behind their Ferrari rivals which kept abreast of them throughout the practice before the qualifying with Vettel and Charles finishing third (+0.301) and fourth (+0.318) respectively.
"I didn't give up, I kept pushing. But Valtteri has been stellar all weekend," Hamilton praised Bottas for his brilliant display of performance.
Meanwhile, that was Bottas' first pole since Russia GP 2018 and his first time in seven races to outclass teammate Hamilton in the qualifying.
