Atletico Madrid: Diego Costa Banned For Eight Matches For Insulting Referee
Diego Costa will be missed in Atletico Madrid lineups for the rest of the season as he was served an eight-match ban for being guilty of verbally abusing the officiating referee.
Diego was accused of making an abusive utterance against referee Jesus Gil Manzano during Atletico's La Liga game 2-0 defeat at Barcelona on Saturday. Having being found guilty of the accusations leveled against him, the 30-year-old was served a four-match ban for holding Manzano's arm in protest and the rest of the ban for his utterance.
In Manzano's report, he revealed that Diego did not actually insult him, what he said was insulting to "his Mother". Even the former Chelsea striker's manager Diego Simeone also reckoned that his player said something when he approached the referee for his decision to dismiss him.
"I asked the referee and he told me Costa said something to him," Simeone said, "Other players have said things...but that does not justify what Costa did."
This season, the Spaniard has in 16 appearances in league game, scored 2 goals and completed two assists.
