Miami Open 2019: Roger Federer Beats John Isner To Win Title
Roger Federer is now 101th ATP single titlist having won the final of the Miami Open over American vet John Isner in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
It was the Swiss' 50th Masters 1000 appearances and his fifth final in Florida where he won his fourth title, winning his 6-in-8 meeting with the world no. 9.
Federer wasted no time to ease through the opener, winning four straight game by converting four break points and he wrapped the match over revived Isner who hit a forehand shot wide.
"I'm so happy right now. It's great. To stand stand here after si many years is absolutely incredible," says Federer, who won his first since 2017.
The American struggled with knee injury at the second and fought on in spite of that with the World no. 5 whom he defeated in their last meeting in Paris Open in 2015.
"John is a great player, a great person. I'm sorry for your foot, " Federer said to the American on his injury "I'm positive for you it's all good and you'll be playing great tennis for thr rest of the year."
