Miami Open 2019: Roberto Bautista Agut Stunningly Oust Novak Djokovic To Reach Quarter-finals
It was not as Novak Djokovic would have expected from Spaniard veteran Roberto Bautista Agut, who left him shocked with an early elimination from the Miami Open on Tuesday.
Six-time champion Djokovic swept through the opening set with Roberto, but things changed after rain interrupted as the Spaniard gained control over the game and won two remaining sets by 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 to book his place in the quarter-finals.
Djokovic entered the round with 40-0 unbeaten run at the tournament and Roberto snapped the streak on their tenth career meetings. It was a back-to-back victory over the top seed for Roberto since their last meeting at Qatar Open in Doha where he won in straight three sets by 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.
The world no. 1 blamed his elimination on being sluggish in "two, three games", yet he was satisfied with his performance stating that "I thought I played well today and throughout this entire tournament."
Roberto will face in thr quarter-finals American ace John Isner who defeated British No. 1 Edmund Kyle in straight sets, 7-6(5), 7-6(3).
