Idion Ighalo Turned Down Offer From Barcelona To Stay In Chinese Super League
Having to join FC Barcelona would be a dream offer for most footballers, but that doesn't seemed to be for Nigerian star Odion Ighalo who preferred to stay in Chinese Super League instead.
Ighalo, who currently plays for Shanghai Shenhua on a long contract, revealed his agent approached him if he would accept a six months loan to Barcelona. At the time, Nou Camp were seeking a striker with La Liga experience.
"It was meant to be a six-month loan and strictly as a back-up striker," Ighalo told "It was nice to hear that Barcelona were interested and any footballer would be more than happy to take it."
The 29-year-old, who finished last season the Super League's second top goalscorer with 21 goals throught it best to go to a club where he would regular than for a short term to Spain.
"We rejected it, it was an easy decision to make and i chose to stay in China by joining Shanghai Shenhua on a longer contract."
