Argentina and Chelsea forward Gonzalo Higuain has officially announced his retirement from international football on Thursday.
Gonzalo moved to Chelsea on loan from Italian Serie A giants Juventus which he joined from Napoli where he played under present Blues manager Maurizio Sarri.
He told Fox News during an interview that he decided to retire so as to have more time to spend with his family especially his daughter.
"I've made the decision because I want to enjoy my family," Gonzalo said during the interview "I want to spend time with my daughter and at the same time I feel that I gave my country everything I could."
The 31-year-old added that his retirement from international football would allow him to enjoy the Premier League as he should.
Speaking about playing for his home country, Gonzalo recalled some memorable moment that he failed to seized scoring chances that could have given his country victory especially at the 2014 World Cup.
"People remember the goals I missed and not the kmes I scored...When you criticise someone maliciously it hurts everyone. I saw how much my family suffered, but I gave everything for the national team."
