BNP Paribas Open 2019: Roger Federer Knocks Kyle Edmund Out, Rafael Nadal Eases Through To Quarter-finals

British no. 1 Kyle Edmund could not make it past Swiss veteran Roger Federer, who eased through to the quarter-finals in his bid for his sixth Indian Well titles.
Edmund was meeting Federer for the first time and stood not much a chance with the five-time titlist, who lashed out him using his backhand shots.
After a sloppy start at the opener, the Briton failed failed to seize break point chances, giving the fourth seed an advantage to breeze through in straight sets by 6-1, 6-4.
"He didn't have the best starr, so that cosf him the first set," Federer said of Edmund after the match "Second set, it was definitely better. I think he probably struggled throughout a little bit."
He went to say, "I was able to keep him uncomfortable throughout the match. He's got everything in the game. It's just a matter of keeping improving, keep plugging away, and then he will make big results again."
The Swiss reached a career milestone of 100th ATP title at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and will meet Hubert Hurkacs in his 13th Indian Well quarter-finals.
In later draw, world no. 2 Rafael Nadal also breezed through to quarter-finals, beating Filip Krajinov in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4.
As Nadal eyes his fourth title at Indian Well, he stands the chance of overtaking Novak Djokovic in ATP World Ranking if he wins the tournament. However, there is a big challenge ahead of him and that is the person of Roger Federer whom he might meet enroute to the final.
Having said that, the Spaniard will meet in the next match, Russian ace Karen Khachanov who beat John Isner in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(1).
