Dubai Tennis Championships: Roger Federer Reaches Semis, Beats Marton Fucsovics In Straight Sets
After winning the quarter-final match with Marton Fucsovics on Thursday, Roger Federer is now two matches away to claiming his 100th single titles at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
After nearly two hours of play, Federer stamped his authority on the match winning in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-4 on his first career meeting with Fucsovics.
The Hungarian did put the Swiss to test and dragged the opening set into a tie-break but lost straight four match points to the seven-time winner and wrapped up his defeat in the second set shooting forehand wide.
"I'm very happy to have found a way to the semis...It was a good level of play considering all the difficulties that were on the court today," Federer said recalling the slight rain interruption in the second set.
Federer is set to become the first player ever to win 100 single titles milestone since 1989 when American Jimmy Connors won his 109 single titles.
In the semis, Federer will meet Croatian Borna Coric.
