Dubai Tennis Championships 2019: Gael Monfils Survives Ricardas Berankis' Scare To Reach Semi-final
Gael Monfils had a tought match with Lithuanian ace Ricardas Berankis whom he beat by 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-2 to book a place in the semi-finals at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday.
The Frenchman, 32, kept a clean slate in two ATP Fedex meetings with the world no. 113 who ousted Daniil Medvedev in the opening round.
At the opener, Monfils converted two break points to ease through the set, but Ricardas fought back and held on the second set through to a tie-break and won to drag the game into a decider.
Ricardas started off ahead at the third set but was swept aside by Monfils by claiming five straight games to eliminate the Lithuanian in the quarter-final match.
Monfils edges to closer to claiming his second title of the season after winning Rotterdam Open title im February. He will face in the next match Stefanos Tsitsipas - the Greek battled through two tie-break to beat Hubert Hurkacz by 7-6(4), 6-7(1), 6-1.
