Champions League: Manchester City Stunningly Comeback To Beat Schalke 3-2
Manchester City defiled all the odds and rallied to beat Schalke 3-2 in the first leg tie of Last 16 on Wednesday night.
City found themselves at the mercy of the VAR twice which awarded two penalties to Schalke. Making it worse, Nicolas Otamendi was red carded while the team was down by 1-2.
In spite of that, the English side staged an incredible comeback with Raheem Sterling tapping in the winning goal right on the 90th minutes.
Sergio Aguero had opened the scoring early into match before VAR penalised City for Otamendi's handball in the box and Schalke's Bentaleb converted the spot-kick to equalise the scores.
In just minutes later, City's Fernandinho pulled down Schalke's Salif Sane in the box following a free-kick and VAR ruled that to be another penalty. Bentaleb again scored the spot-kick to out the side in the lead.
While it looked as if City were going to concede the game after Otamendi was sent off for a rough tackle on Guido Burgstaller, Leroy Sane brilliantly curled a 30-yard home from a free-kick with five minutes remaining and Sterling sealed the game scoring the decider.
City remained unbeaten in eight games played so far in the competition and will host Schalke at Etihad Stadium on February 23.
