'Alita: Battle Angel' Rules At Box Office With $27.8 Million

Compared to last year, this year's three days President's weekend has been said to be the worst on record since 2004, but 'Alita: Battle Angel' yet made it to the top spot at the box office on debut.
The 21st Century Fox's cyberpunk action packed film 'Alita: Battle Angel'  racked in $27.8 million domestically screening from 3,790 cinemas.
In the three day President's weekend, the Robert Rodriguez- directed film's eased through in the international market pulling in $94.3 million on opening weekend with France adding the most to the cume ($5.87m).
The projection set for 'The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part' was $27 million considering the three days advantage, yet what it recorded fell short of expectations just as Alita did. It came second at box office hauling in $21.2 million in its second weekend and that brought its domestic cume to  $62.9 million.
Just as Alita and LEGO couldn't meet up with expectations on President's weekend, Rebel Wilson srarring film 'Isn't It Romantic' experienced the same with domestic gross of $14.2 million on debut.
The three day President's weekend was a massive success last year with Marvel's superhero film leading the cume with $202 million. The total gross recorded amongst top 12 films at the box office in the weekend was $270 million.
Apparently, this year's performance is poorest ever on record with top 12 having combine gross of $109.1 million and 'Alita: Battle Angel' is unable to make a remarkable difference as Black Panther did.
