Roger Federer Reveals He Will Be Playing On Clay-Court
World no. 2 Roger Federer will be competing on clay-court this season for the first time in three years, he revealed in statement.
The Swiss' bid for his seventh Australian Open title and 100th tour-level titles was squashed by Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas after beating him in fourth round match by 6-7(11), 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-6(5) on Sunday. He turned out the youngest player ever to play in the quarter-finals in Melbourne after Aussie veteran Nick Kyrgios in 2015.
Federer said during an interview after his shock defeat to the Greek player that his comeback to clay-court is for the passion he has for the sport and would like to make his first appearnace in three years.
"I can say i have missed it, i did the right thing skipping it last year, the year before as well, and the year before that i was injured. So i felt i wanted to do it again...I'm in a phase where i want to have fun."
The 20-time Gram Slam titlist, Federer, alongside with Novak Djokovic, top in Australian Open all-time biggest winner with six titles each.
