Reform Alliance is an initiative of Meek Mill, who after spending five months behind bars for a minor offense, have been campaigning for criminal justice system reform in the United States.
Speaking about the need for an organisation like this, Meek narrated in his speech that there are environments that he thinks it is difficult not to be in trouble.
"You grow up around murder on a daily basis, you grow up in drug-infested neighbourhoods," he said at the event "And every time I started to further my lice with the music industry, there was always something that brought me back to ground zero."
In 2017, Meek was alleged of violating conditions for his probation for a case he was arrested for in 2007. He was incarcerated following a court ruling and was released five months later after the overturned.
Also speaking at the event was Jay-Z, and the rapper/streaming service mogul maintained that he is opposed to hardened criminals going to jail, but the issue is that "things are just disproportionate and the whole world knows it."
