FA Cup Fifth Round: Crystal Palace Knock Tottenham Out
Tottenham Hotspur's 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Selhurt Park on Sunday, led to their exit from the competition.
There seemed not to be any title hope for Mauricio Pochettino which are now out of two competitions having failed to make it through to EFL Carabao Cup final, losing to Chelsea (4-2 aggregate) in a penalty shoot-out at Stanford Bridge Stadium on Thursday.
Palace did not have the upper hand in game possession over Spurs which goalkeeper's half saved shot gave Connor Wickham to find a chance to score his first goal in two ssason.
Early into the game, Spurs slid a game down in scoring when Spurs' goalkeeper saved Jeffrey Schlupp's shot to Wickham's reach for a tap into the post.
Unfortunately for Pochettino's team, Palace doubled the lead from a penalty converted by Andros Townsend when Walker-Peters got his hands to the ball in the box following a corner.
Spurs had chances to put a goal in from a penalty drawn by Juan Foyth, but Kieran Tripper wasted it shooting wide the spot-kick late in the first half.
Meanwhile, despite missing out on two competitions, Pochettino shoved aside any worries over the team's inability to reach FA Fifth Round for four consecutive season and maintained winning a trophy does nothing good to a team than inflating their ego.
He believes playing in continental competitions is more important saying after the match, "In reality, the most important thing is being consistently in the top four and playing in the Champions League."
