Australian Open 2019: Novak Djokovic Wins Seventh Title In Melbourne
Novak Djokovic swept through the final match against Rafael Nadal to claim his seventh Australian Open title. He is now the all-time biggest winner at the event leading his Swiss counterpart Roger Federer by a title.
Nadal was brutally thrashed by the Serb, 31, who converted five break points and committed only four unforced errors as against the Spaniard who made 25 unforced error and breezed through to claim the victory in straight sets by 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
It was a brilliant performance from the reigning champion as he won 81% of his first serve and kept his aggressive style of play through having Nadal under control with his forehand shots.
Having won the final, Djokovic past previous record set by Roy Emerson and extended his Grand Slam titles to fifteen to be third biggest Grand Slam winner only trailing behind Rafael Nadal (17) and Roger Federer (20).
This is Djokovic's 73rd ATP major singles title will retain his ranking in the sport when the new ATP World Ranking will be announced on Monday.
