Australian Open 2019: Novak Djokovic Ruthlessly Beat Lucas Pouille To Meet Rafael Nadal In Final
Novak Djokovic is set for a tough final match with Rafael Nadal having defeated French player Lucas Pouille in the semi-finals on Friday.
Lucas did not stand any chance with the six-time titlist who ruthlessly won seven straight games and breezed through to win in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 on his first career meetings with the Frenchman.
Admittedly, the 24-year-old confessed that playing against the world no. 1 was not as easy as expected for him saying "I didn't have time to put a strategy into the match" that lasted for only 83 minutes.
Pouille described how Djokovic was able to have him overpowered, saved seven break points and made just one unforced error saying, "The strategy was to be aggressive, try to be one who [is] leading the point. But when he's playing that far from the baseline, 10 centimetres from the baseline all the time, it's tough to do it."
Unfortunately for Pouille, who was playing his first major tournament final, he could have been the fourth French player to reach the final in Melbourne, but was stopped by Djokovic who is set for his first title at the event since winning back-to-back in 2015 and 2016.
The Serb, 31, is set for his fifteenth Grand Slam title and seventh title in Mebourne if he made it past Spaniard veteran and four-time finalist Rafael Nadal in the final on Sunday.
