Australian Open 2019: Novak Djokovic Beats Mtchell Krueger To Meet Jo-Wilfried Tsonga In Secon Roumd
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic eased through to the second of the event in Melbourne as he conveniently thrashed Mitchell Krueger in straight sets on Tuesday.
Except in the opening set, the six-time champion seemingly controlled the match over the American who was beating 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in his first career meeting with the Serb.
Krueger picked up two straight games after losing the opening game to be in the lead, but Novak fought back from 3-3 and won three straight games to win the the first.
He started off ahead in the second set winning first two game to in 2-0 advantage to ease through the set. Krueger was again in 1-2 lead in the deciding set before Novak rallied to win five straight games, wrapping the match up in straight sets after two hours of play.
Speaking after the match Novak recalled starting last season with elbow injury saying, "It feels great to be healthy and back on this court again. Twelve months ago it was quite a different sensation."
He will face in the second round French player Jo-Wilfiried Tsonga for their 25th ATP Fedex meeting on Thursday.
