Naomi Osaka has become the first Asian woman ever to win Grand Slam titles back-to-back after she defeated Czech player Petra Kvitova to win Australian Open title.
The US Open champion is set to be crowned women's tennis world no. 1 on Monday when new ATP Rankings will be announced. In effect, she will become the first Asian woman ever to reach the remarkable feat in tennis history.
Osaka, 21, made It through hard-fought final match with the 2014 Wimbledon titlist, 28, after dropping the second set, she rallied at 3-3 in the decider saving a break before serving out the Czech to win in three sets by 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4.
"I want to thank you guys for coming and watching. Even though it's really hot, you guys come and show support so I really want to show my gratitude to you," says Osaka who becomes the first Asian woman to win a title in Melbourne.
