Australian Open 2019: Denis Shapovalov Exits After Losing To Novak Djokovic In Third Round
Denis Shapovalov on his first career meeting with Novak Djokovic had a feel of what is it to played against the Serb who ousted him to reach the fourth round of the event.
The Canadian stopped the world no. 1 from sweeping through the round as he rallied to win the third set from 1:4 by winning five straight games. He soon lost aggression and was emotionally broken in the fourth set, double-faulting to cleanly lose the fourth set to the Serb to exit the tournament in four sets 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.
"I expected Denis to come out and be aggressive," says Djokovic admitting he was anxious about what the Canadian his made of "At the 4+1 [in the third set], I was agitated. It should not happen to me...But it does happen, I guess."
Djokovic edged closer to reaching the final of the event for the first time since 2016 and will face in the next match Russian Daniil Medvedev for their third ATP FedEx series.
