Premier League: Liverpool Extend Table Lead By Beating Newcastle United 4-0
Liverpool maintained table lead with six points clear their nearest rivals Tottenham and, by winning their home game by 4-0 against Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
Reds were no match for Newcastle which ended up conceding the biggest lost at Anfield in December since 1987.
The hosts moved up in the lead with an opening goal through Dejan Lovren's volley early into the game. Meanwhile, Joselu had missed a chance to put Newcastle in the lead before Lovren's opener.
Soon after the second half whistle, Mo Salah doubled the lead by converting penalty conceded by Paul Dummett who fouled him in the box. That was later followed by Shaqiri's tapping home Alexander-Arnold's cross for the third goal.
Liverpool extended their lead through Fabinho who headed the ball in following a corner kick minutes before full-time.
Jurgen Klopp's side are not only topping the table with six points clear, they remain the only side that remain unbeaten through to halfway to a Premier League season.
They have become the fourth team ever to remain undefeated through to mid-season after Arsenal (under Arsene Wenger in 2003/04), Manchester United (under Sir ALex Ferguson in 2010/11) and Manchester City (with Pep Guardiola in 2017/18).
