Famous American comic/actor Kevin Hart has stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars Awards ceremony following the resurface his past homophobic remarks which the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences wants him to apologise for or get replaced.
While away in Australia on "The Kevin Hart Irresponsible Tour", the Jumanji star actor responded to the call from the Academy to make an apology for his old tweets on the LGBTQ community in a clip posted to his Instagram page on Friday.
"I just got a call from the Academy and call basically said 'Kevin apologise for your tweet of old or we going to have to move on and find another host," he says in the clip about his tweets from 2009 and 2010.
He admitted to stepping down the role saying, "I chose to pass on the apology. The reason why I passed is because I've addressed this several times. This is not the first time this has come up...I'm going to doing. I'm going to me and I'm going to stay on my ground. Regardless to the Academy, I'm thankful and appreciative to the opportunity. If it goes away no harm no foul."
In one of his remarks which he has apologised for he tweeted saying, "Yo, if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice 'stop that's gay.'"
At some point in 2010, Kevin has several times come to clarify that he is not homophobic saying, "I have nothing against gay people, do what you want to do, but me, being heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will."
