Geraint Thomas Wins BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Geraint Thomas, winner of the 2018 Tour de France has been named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, and is the first Welshman after former Manchester United player and Wales national team manager Ryan Giggs to receive the award since 2009.
The Olympic medallist received most vote from the public which decided the winner of the award, he was followed by Lewis Hamilton who was voted second and Spurs Harry Kane came third.
"I feel very lucky to have come into cycling when I did," says Geraint on the podium "As a biker, I always focus on myself. Obviously people want me to win, but hearing stories like Tyson [Fury]'s and Billy's, you realise that what we do does inspire people back home."
After nine appearance at the Tour de France, the 32-year-old won the race and is the third Briton ever to win the competition after Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome.
