FIA Prize Giving Ceremony: Lewis Hamilton Receives Personality of the Year Award As Charles Leclerc Becomes First To Win Rookie Award Back-to-Back
After a fantastic season, the Mercedes team and lead driver Lewis Hamilton received awards at the sport's award show held at the Grand Hall of the Saint Petersburg Phillharmonia in Russia on Saturday.
The five-time champion received the award for FIA Personality of the Year and also silverware for winning this season's championship.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff alongside with the team's non-executive director Niki Lauda was honoured with the sport's President's Award and recieved for the team their trophy for winning the season's constructors championship.
"It was an unbelievable season...Did I enjoy the battle with Ferrari? No, i didn't, it was reallh tough. But if i look back, i wouldn't have done it any other way," says Mercedes boss Toto Wolff who lead the team to their fifth championship title.
At the ceremony, Sauber's driver Charles Leclerc becomes the first driver to win the FIA Rocky od the Year award dor two consecutive years.
Hamilton is the third F1 driver ever to win five championships after Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher. He tops in F1 all-time pole position with 83 poles followed by Michael Schumacher with 68 poles.
