Disney To Cast Will Smith As The Genie In Aladdin Remake

Previously, Genie in Disney's 1990s 2D animated film Aladdin was voiced by late Robin Williams, that role has now been taking over by Will Smith in the remake.
This is far from being just a speculation as the Bad Boys star actor's image surfaced on Entertainment Weekly cover picture in The Genie floating robe. He was joined in the cover picture by Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as princess Jasmine.

Smith would be donning the blue floating cap as it was in William's 2D animation, and as noted by the director Guy Ritchie in EW, he would be cast differently from the late character. He teased that it would be somewhat of egotistical character, similar to what he is known for in his previous films.
Speaking about the role, Smith confirmed that he intends to take a cue from the previous charactor as a form homage to him and blend that with his kind of style of acting, which he says would "stand out as unique even in the Disney world" because "there hasn't been a lot of that hip-hop flavour in Disney history."
