Atlanta United Wins First MLS Cup, Defeat Portland Timbers 2-0

Atlanta United has won their first ever Major League Soccer Cup after they won 2-0 against Portland Timbers on Saturday.
The champions which made their first appearance in the competition in 2017 seized the opportunities for scoring chances committed by Portland and punished the 2015 champions for it.
Late in the first half, Venezuela international Josef Martinez opened the scores when Portland's defender committed an error that landed the ball on his feet, went past keeper Jeff Attinella and slammed him a right footed shot for his 35th goal in 2018.
Franco Escobar doubled the lead in 54th minutes tapping the ball into the bottom corner of the post after Martinez flicked a header into his path following Miguel Almiron's free-kick.
Former Aston Villa keeper now with Atlanta United says after match that winning the title to him is one of his "top moments" in his career because "you never know if you're going to have this opportunity again."
The title is Atlanta's first ever major sport title since 1995 and the club's ever in the history of MLS Cup.
