2018 Nitto ATP Finals: Kei Nishikori Beats Roger Federer In Opening Round
Last night, Roger Federer was beaten in the opening round of the ATP World Tour Finals by seventh seed Kei Nishikori at the O2 Arena in London.
The six-time champions faced the best side of the Japanese who beat him in straight sets by 7-6(4), 6-3, to claimed his third victory in ten ATP FedEx series.
In the opening set, Kei rallied back at 5:6 and forced the set into a tie-break, winning straight six points to win the set. The second set was much easier for him as he wrapped the round up after an hour and half of play.
"I'm glad to win, it is never easy to play with my idol," says Kei "it is always a big challenge against him, so it was great to win."
The world no. 3 his bidding for his first Nitto ATP Final title ince 2003, which in effect will be his 100th career title - a landmark achievement that he stands the chance of attaining.
Federer will play in next match against Austrian player Dominic Thiem in round-robin group on Tuesday, and Kei will face soith African player Kevin Anderson in the afternoon.
