United States GP 2018: Lewis Hamilton Wins 81st Career Pole Position
As Lewis Hamilton closes on claiming fifth career championship title, he has won his 81th pole position in the qualifying session of the United States Grand Prix on Saturday.
The Briton led the race after crossing the finish line in 1:32.237 to beat his title rival Sebastian Vettel who came second in 0.061s ahead of his teammate Kimi Raikkonen.
Hamilton now has all-time most pole position in the history of Formual One, and stands the chance of defending the title this season - his former teammate and retured driver Nico Rosberg won the title in 2016.
By claiming pole position, he puts his rival Sebastian in a difficult situation who will be serving three-spot starting penalty in the final on Sunday, and if he failed to finish in podium position he forfeits the title to the Briton.
In championship title standing, Hamilton leads is 67 points ahead Sebastian who follows with 264 points and desperately needs to stay in title contest.
