Shanghai Masters 2018: Roger Federer Advised Nick Kyrgios To Work On His Potential After A Row With Umpire
Roger Federer has some words of advice for Australian Nick Kyrgios following his row with umpire Damien Dumusois during his opening match defeat to American Bradley Klahn by 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The 23-year-old lost his temper when the Damien ruled his effort to be "borderline" at second set by saying "I don't care...You have no right to tell me that it's poor."
"I think it's really up to him where he wants to go and what his potential really holds. We don't really know and i don't think he really knows exactly what his potential is," says the former world champion.
This makes it the third time in three consecutive seasons that Nick will be engaged in a row with an umpire - he was fined $10,000 for hiting two ball out of court in frustration in 2017, and a season before that, he was fined $16, 500 for same unsportsmanlike offence.
"He can win bigger tournaments and do all these things," says Federer with an expectation that he would someday reach the feat he or any other players have attained "He needs to do like any other player needs to go through in order to be successful.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner last appearnace was at the US Open and will be playing his opening match with Danill Medvedev in Shanghai on Tuesday.
