Roger Federer had yet another tough match with Japan's Kei Nishikori who put him through test of competence during his quarter-final such that he had to bring out his finest skill to win.
After winning a tough opener, the top seed had a second set that lasted through a tiebreak, and stunningly catch up on Kei who was in 1:4 advantage to convert the tie, claiming both sets by 6-4, 7-6(4).
The world no. 2 was in incredibly superb form, and his shots were rightly placed as he extends his lead in eight ATP FedEx meetings with the Japanese to 6:2.
It was not a doubt that Kei did brilkiantky well and Federer admitted to that saying, "it was a tough match. Obviiusly Kei hogs the baseline much more than Medvedev did or also what (Roberto Bautista) did. I think it was a different type of match.
In the semi final, Federer is set to face Croatia's and Gerry Weber Open champion Borna Coric in their fourth career meetings.
