Real Madrid Sack Julen Lopetegui, Appoint Santiago Solari As Replacement
Julen Lopetegui's spell at Real Madrid has come to an abrupt end as the club announced his dismissal following the team's humiliating 5-1 defeat to their League rival FC Barcelona on Sunday.
The 52-year-old was ousted after spending just four month and half at the club, and has been temporarily replaced with ex-player Santiago Solari.
In a statement released by the club regarding Lopetegui's dismissal, it confirmed that the management's decision was based on the club's performance since he was appointed "to date".
"The Board of Directors understands that there is great disproportion between the quality of staff of Real Madrid and the results obtained to date," the statement reads.
Real has been experiencing an unsual performance since the start of the season, they has lost six in 14 matches, and have conceded 20 goals.
