Paris Masters 2018: Rafael Nadal Retires, Forfeits Ranking To Novak Djokovic
World no. 1 Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from participating in Rolex Paris Masters after he was diagnosed with bdominal injury.
The Spaniard's first match with Argentine Juan Martin del Potro has been cancelled, and that in effects, puts his world ranking on the line which potentially will be takinh over by Novak Djokovic who for the first time in two years will reclaim the top spot.
"My abdominal muscles haven't felt goof for the past few days," says Nadal as he announced his retirement from the event "doctors recommended that i didn't play. It's been a difficult year for me in terms of injuries, and I'd prefer to avoid doing anything drastic."
The 32-year-old has been replaced with Malek Jaziri who would have been eliminated from the event after losing in second round to Fernando Verdasco, but will now play in third round against Jack Sock.
